RI (Reserved Instances) Recommendations

This RI Utilisation Dashboard is available as part of the Cost Module. Reserved Instances in AWS, Azure provides excellent cost saving benefit when you commit for certain level of usage for specific products such as instance types or databases.

If you have instances and databases that you consistently use for the whole month and you have a projection for such usage for longer duration such as a year or 3 years, you must consider purchasing reserved instances. Production workloads are good candidates for RI since they will be running 24x7x365. You can also group the usage from multiple instances of a specific family and still get the RI discount benefit.

The summary section provides the consolidated numbers for the following

Azure – Total Potential Cost Savings (by purchasing RIs)
Azure – Total no. of RIs that are recommended to be purchased
AWS – Total Potential Cost Savings (by purchasing RIs)
AWS – Total no. of RIs that are recommended to be purchased

Note: You can choose the Currency value at the top right. This is defaulted to USD. To view the cloud accounts that are billed in other currencies, you need to change this value.

The grid view below, provides the list of Reserved Instances that are purchased currently along with relevant information and the utilization % of the RIs. The following fields are available

Field Name	Field Description
Tenant	The name of the CoreStack Tenant – implies a Dept or Team.
Cloud Account	The name of the Cloud Account that represents an AWS account or Azure Subscription.
Reservation Type	The Resource Type that is being reserved – Virtual Machine, Database.
Reservations SKU	The instance type or product that is reserved. SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit that is used to refer to a product or inventory item.
Region	The Region/Location of the Cloud, where the reservation is applicable.
Number of RIs	The recommended count of RIs that can be purchased for that specific SKU.
Estimated Cost Savings	The estimated cost savings that can be achieved by purchasing these RIs.

Filter: You can also Filter by most of the fields available in the grid. Use the Settings Icon at the top right of the grid and choose your filter options.
