After running a Compass assessment and completing a milestone, you can run that assessment again to validate any changes or updates that occurred since the last milestone was completed. This makes it much easier to govern your workloads since you don't need to create a new assessment each time.
Run your assessment again after saving a milestone
Follow the steps outlined below to manage and re-run your assessments after they've been completed at least once.
-
Navigate to Resource > Workloads in CoreStack. Here, you should be able to see a list of your workloads, including any that have had an assessment done.
- A completed assessment is indicated by a full green colored ring around the a cloud platform icon underneath the WAF Standards column.
-
Click on the icon under the WAF Standards column to view the assessment summary for that workload.
-
In the top right corner of the dashboard view, select Continue Assessment to open the assessment view, showcasing the lists of best practices and questions.
"Re-run Scan" button:
On the assessment summary page, you may also see a button next to "Continue Assessment" titled Re-run Scan. Clicking this open an confirmation prompt, which once you confirm initiates CoreStack to run it's automated scans on your workload again.
This is helpful for if you make any changes and want CoreStack to re-validate any best practices for which automated scans are enabled.
-
Here, you go through the assessment questions again and make any changes as required. Functionally, this provides the same experience and interface as the assessment that was run before.
- To learn more, read Start your first assessment.
-
Once you and/or any other stakeholders have made all the desired updates, scroll to the bottom of the page and select View Summary to return to the Assessment Summary page.
-
Upon reviewing everything once more, once you are satisfied and ready to proceed, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Submit for Approval button.
- This button may be disabled if not enough best practice questions have been answered.
-
Once submitted, the user assigned as the assessment Approver in an earlier step receives an email notification prompting them to go and review the assessment.
-
When the Approver user logs in to CoreStack, they can go to Workloads and click on the assessment status icon to view the assessment summary. Here, they will see an option to approve or reject the assessment.
- If rejected, then the assessment Owner is notified by email to edit the assessment and re-submit for approval.
- If approved, then the assessment Owner should see a new Create Milestone button on the assessment summary page. Click this to create a milestone.
This process can be done as many times as needed, and is helpful for creating a paper trail of snapshots to give a clear perspective of the state of workloads over time.
